Street Fighter 6 is stirring excitement with an upcoming feature that could change how players experience the game—introducing the ability to customize the Battle HUD to resemble those from classic titles. But here’s where it gets a little controversial: this nostalgic upgrade won't be available for free. Instead, it’s set to be a paid addition, which might spark debate among fans who prefer free content.
Recently, Capcom announced that a significant update is on its way this month, and among the new features, the highlight is the Battle HUD customization option. This feature is designed to appeal strongly to longtime fans who fondly remember the visual styles of earlier Street Fighter entries.
What exactly does this mean? Essentially, players will be able to swap out the default HUD—the on-screen display that shows health bars, meters, character portraits, and other vital info—for different styles inspired by five classic titles: Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, Ultra Street Fighter 4, and Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition.
Each different HUD style will reconfigure elements like meters, gauges, and portraits to match the aesthetic of the chosen game. Imagine fighting with a HUD that feels like you're back in the arcades of the ’90s or the early 2000s—it's a chance to relive those nostalgic moments visually.
Interestingly, this feature isn’t entirely new in fighting games. Titles like Tekken have offered similar customization options, so it’s exciting to see Street Fighter finally join the trend. However, these stylish new HUDs won’t come free. Capcom has confirmed that players will need to purchase them from the in-game shop upon release. Prices, however, remain under wraps for now.
As a consolation, Capcom has announced that at least one free HUD inspired by the classic “Sim Sim” style will be available—so players can enjoy some nostalgia without extra cost.
This update is scheduled to launch on December 16, coinciding with the addition of a new VTuber commentator for Street Fighter 6, which could add a fresh, entertaining twist to match commentary. Fans are also eagerly awaiting more details about upcoming Outfit 4 DLC, which remains in the pipeline.
