Soybeans Market Update: Prices Ticking Higher on Thursday | Soybean Futures Analysis (2026)

Soybeans Show Slight Gains on Thursday Morning — But here's where it gets interesting... Despite the overall cautious optimism in the market, soybean futures are experiencing only modest upward movement as Thursday begins. On Wednesday, contracts for nearby months closed with gains ranging from 3 to over 7 cents, with some longer-term contracts remaining steady or dipping slightly. Notably, open interest increased by nearly 7,900 contracts, indicating growing trader participation. Additionally, 68 deliveries were made against the January soybean contracts as they expired during the day, culminating in a total of 3,397 deliveries for this renewal period.

The cash price for soybeans across the nation, according to cmdtyView, rose by 4 cents to $9.70 and a half per bushel. Soymeal futures saw a significant increase of 80 cents, closing at $1.20, while soybean oil futures edged down by 2 to 22 points. Interestingly, soy oil prices are slightly lower this morning after experiencing sharp drops in crude oil markets, highlighting the close ties between energy prices and vegetable oils.

Overnight, 11 deliveries were registered for January soybean meal, with 3 for soybean oil, pointing to active trading amid the expiration period.

Looking ahead, traders are awaiting the release of the NOPA (National Oilseed Processing Association) data, which is expected to report that approximately 224.8 million bushels of soybeans were processed in December. This data provides key insights into the processing and demand landscape.

Shortly after, the market will see the release of export sales figures. Analysts anticipate that soybean sales for the week ending January 8 might range between 0.8 million to 1.8 million metric tons. For soymeal, sales are projected between 150,000 and 400,000 metric tons, with bean oil sales estimated between 0 and 26,000 tons.

In international news, Brazil's soybean output has been revised downward to an estimated 176.12 million metric tons by CONAB, reflecting a 1-million-ton decrease from their December forecast, underscoring uncertainties in global supply.

As for futures prices, January 26 soybeans closed at $10.30 and a half, gaining 7 and a quarter cents. The nearby cash price remains at $9.70 and a half, up four cents. March 26 soybeans saw a modest increase to $10.42 and a half, with a current rise of half a cent. Similarly, May 26 futures closed at $10.55, up three cents, with a slight increase of a quarter cent in real-time trading.

And this is the part most people miss — markets are influenced by a complex web of factors, from weather patterns and crop reports to global trade policies. Do you think the recent downward revision of Brazil's soybean production will significantly impact global prices? Or are traders overly focused on short-term fluctuations? Share your thoughts below — your perspective could change how others view market movements.
