The duo were closely followed by Rai, who was poised to resume his round at six-under par through 16 holes before the suspension.

Speaking to Sky Sports, McIlroy shared his thoughts on the day's challenges: 'It was very blustery, obviously we had that delay, and the course after that was very, very wet, so it was having to control your trajectory and spin.'
The wind picked up on the back nine, adding to the difficulty. McIlroy expressed his satisfaction with his ball flight control and the strategic approach on the back nine, where par was a good score. He concluded, 'Overall, I'm very happy with today's work and I'm in a great spot to build from here. To receive a trophy from Tiger Woods on the 18th green on Sunday would be very cool.'
