Joris Nieuwenhuis dominated the Superprestige Merksplas race, securing his third win of the season at the Telenet Superprestige's fourth round. Despite a poor start and an opening circuit crash, he fought back to join a five-man leading group on the fifth lap. The Dutch rider then made a bold solo attack, outpacing Niels Vandeputte by six seconds, with Emiel Verstrynge in third place.
The race, held at Merksplas on Saturday, featured a technical 2.9km circuit with increasing mud and challenging planks and sandpits. Joran Wyesure initially led, but Pim Ronhaar soon took over. Belgian champion Thibau Nys then emerged as a front-runner, maintaining his position at the end of the first lap. However, a bike change set him back on the second lap, with Jente Michels leading the race.
On the third lap, British champion Cameron Mason took advantage of Ronhaar's dismount, attacking and leading through the sandpit, taking Michels with him. This duo gained a small lead onto lap four. Despite Mason's efforts, Nieuwenhuis' pressure and solo attack proved unstoppable, leaving no room for his rivals.
The race's progression saw Nys and Mason struggle to regain contact with the leaders, while Nieuwenhuis' attack widened the gap. This thrilling race showcased Nieuwenhuis' resilience and skill, solidifying his position as a top contender in the Superprestige series.
