And this is the part most people miss: Grokipedia's AI-related issues aren't new. Back in May, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. released a report with erroneous citations, a problem that seems to have carried over to Grokipedia. Experts argue that Grokipedia fails to grasp the strengths of both Wikipedia and AI. Wikipedia's power lies in its community-driven approach, while AI shines when it's interactive and adaptable.
Wikipedia, powered by hundreds of thousands of volunteers worldwide, has established editorial policies and guidelines that ensure content quality. Selena Decklemann, from the Wikimedia Foundation, highlights the irony: "Grokipedia needs Wikipedia to exist." She emphasizes that Wikipedia's open-source content is designed for education, but platforms like Grokipedia selectively extract this content, filter it through opaque algorithms, and often fail to attribute the original contributors.
Grokipedia's articles, while similar in structure to Wikipedia's, often lack proper attribution and transparency. For instance, the article on Adele's song "Hello" includes Instagram reels as references, which Wikipedia would deem unacceptable. In another case, Grokipedia added incorrect information about Feist's father's death, citing an unrelated source.

PolitiFact identified instances where Grokipedia introduced misleading information, such as an incorrect statement about the order of Nobel Prize presentations. Unlike Wikipedia, which allows public review and provides a transparent history of edits, Grokipedia lacks a mechanism for readers to track changes, making it challenging to identify and rectify errors.
