This Friday, December 12th, The Valley Pool in Queensland, Australia, will host an extraordinary event designed to thrill spectators worldwide. With an innovative format, this meet promises an unforgettable experience.
But here's where it gets controversial... Instead of focusing solely on time, athletes will compete in a unique points-based system. Each finish position earns points for their team: 1st place - 5 points, 2nd - 3 points, 3rd - 2 points, and 4th - 1 point. And get this, teams have a secret weapon - a 'power play' worth a whopping 10 points, which they can unleash in selected events!
The events themselves are divided into eight exciting 'racing blocks', each with a different swimming theme. For instance, Racing Block 5, 'Speed & Endurance', features knockout rounds of the men's and women's 50m fly and a thrilling mixed 6x50m freestyle relay.
And this is the part most people miss... There's an element of mystery! A 200m IM event with a twist - the order of strokes is decided live by a roulette wheel, and each lane will have a different sequence!
